Paul Bassey, one of the most experienced Nigerian sports Journalist has a career in the Media, Sports Administration and Consultancy services that spans over three decades. From the Chronicle Newspapers in 1977 as a Proof Reader, Staff Reporter in 1979, Sports Writer in 1980 and later Sports Editor in 1981 to Associate Editor, Sports Souvenir in 1984.
In 1986 he was at Punch Newspapers first as Sports Editor, then as Features Editor in 1987 and Deputy Editor in 1988 when he left for Champion Newspapers as Group Sports Editor and served until 1991 when he became Editor, Sporting Champion and later the paper's deputy general manager.
As Sports Administrator and Consultant, Paul Bassey, at various times has served the Nation, Confederation of African Football (CAF), Federation of International Football Association (FIFA), Clubs and Nigeria Football Federation in different capacities starting from 1992 when he was first appointed Member, CAF Media Committee, he is presently a member of the technical committee of the Nigeria Football Federation, a CAF General Coordinator and FIFA match commissioner. . As Sports Consultant to Mobil Producing Nigeria, his company DP Communications has for the past ten years organized the Mobil sponsored Athletics Championship for Akwa Ibom Schools, a programme that is fashioned towards the discovery of young talents in track and field.****
An International Olympic Committee ( IOC ) Torch Bearer, recipient of CAF 50 years Golden Jubilee Award for Outstanding contribution to the development of football in Africa, he is a member of many professional bodies including the Nigeria Union Journalists (NUJ), Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM) and Institute of Directors (IoD). His hobbies include reading, watching football and playing scrabble. He is married with three children.
